Clean Your Garden Tools

As winter begins to wind down, February is the perfect time to get ready for the busy growing season ahead. Before spring growth takes off, take a few minutes to give your garden tools, especially shears and clippers, some well-deserved care.

Clean tools do more than look nice. They make pruning easier, create cleaner cuts for your plants, and help your tools last longer.

A Simple Tool-Care Routine

Getting your tools ready for spring is simple:

  • Brush off dirt and debris

  • Wash with warm, soapy water

  • Dry thoroughly to prevent rust

  • Wipe blades with rubbing alcohol to disinfect

If your pruners feel sticky or stiff, add a small drop of oil to the pivot point to loosen them up. This is also a great time to sharpen dull blades so they are ready for the busy months ahead.

Just a few minutes of care now can make gardening smoother and more enjoyable all spring long. Healthy tools support healthy plants, and a little preparation goes a long way.
